How about the 1090-R? Is it just a smaller lighter de-teched 1290 SA-R? I NOT a super hard off-road rider, especially in a heavy adventure machine. I love my 2007 KLX-250S for putting around at ~45MPH on country roads and limited moderate level off-road things. I find I don't ride my KTM 450-XCW much these days

Nov 9, 2015. Oddometer: 57. Location: Meridian, Idaho. Picking up a new 2020 Silver 1290 SAS late this afternoon. Any pointers or questions i should ask or have them show me/Go over with me about the bike before i take delivery. I know i will be excited just to get out and ride and will be making/bringing a list with me.

The 1090 only feels top heavy when you are pushing it around. Once rolling the 1090 drops a lot of weight. I haven't looked this up, but the 1090/1190 feels like the steering is much quicker than the 950/990 ADV's. It feels similar to the changes KTM did between the older slow handling 530 EXC and the 2012 500 EXC.

If I had bought a KTM 1290SA I would have compared it against the XP but since I bought the 1190 then that is were the comparison comes from. Anyway although I do not disagree with you my wallet does, the 1290SA as a second-hand bike would have come in around £3,000 more than the 1190. To deep for my pockets. #4.

IF, we are talking the 1260 S Ducati twin vs the 1290 Super Adventure S the Duc is rated at 150 hp vs the 160 hp of the SDS. The Duke is reported to have 96 lb/ft of torque vs the 100 + of the KTM. Multistrada vs. KTM1190 ADV. I got a chance to ride my multi and a new KTM 1190 (the non-R version) back to back today. First off let me tell you, the KTM oozes quality. From the paint to the fasteners this bike is top notch. I love the spoke wheels and the 19inch front wheel size. It seems to make so much sense for a bike that has off-road
The 990 was also the first KTM to feature ABS. 2013 – 2016: 1190 ADVENTURE & 1190 ADVENTURE R. The arrival of the KTM 1190 Adventure and KTM 1190 Adventure R in 2013 heralded a new era of technology and versatility for KTM in the Travel Enduro segment. Sophisticated electronics – married to improved ergonomics and a radically more powerful
Haven't ridden a 1290 but put 11000 miles on an 1190 which I suspect is similar to the 1290. Yes, you still know you are on a twin. Yes, it still prefers 4k+ on the tach. No, it doesn't buck around and sound like someone shaking a box of rocks under 4k while under load like the 990. The newer ktm twins are better than the 990 mills in every way.
The biggest compromise for the road is the availability of on-road tyres for the 21" front on the R. The TA2s are as close to a road tyre as you can fit. The 1190 with its 19" front has a wider selection of road tyres. The 19" is not quite as good as the 21" on the R off-road but it will do it fine.

Back in 2003, KTM took the LC8 V-twin motor from their flagship 950 Adventure, and stuck it in a big, gnarly supermotard. The 950 Supermoto eventually became the 990 Supermoto, but was ultimately dropped from the lineup with KTM's next big motor upgrade. And that made the crew at RATicate Racing sad. So when the Californian shop got a crashed 2015 KTM 1190 Adventure R in, they took the gap

Case in point, the 2020 KTM 1290 Super Adventure R. With Dakar-inspired styling, longer suspension travel than the road-going S model, crash guards, and spoked wheels, the R is geared for any
