In the photo at the bottom the Trail Tech light on the left (Baja designs on the right) looks like it would have space behind/under the headlight for a sideways panel. Guys used to run BadAss 950 Super Enduro's with Baja race lights and if you can ditch the Mantis-head the 790/890 would be a sweet looking bike too.

Traded in my Honda 250 Rally for a ‘20 790 Adventure R. The Honda was fine. Dependable. Meh. The KTM is just a different beast altogether. So much more fun to ride and absolutely no issues beyond having to tighten a clamp and open up a fuel line. Newer KTMs work great and they have a ton of personality. That 1290 is beautiful.

The Dirt Tricks Timing Chain Tensioner resolves issues with a slack timing chain on the new 4-stroke motors. The 2008 and newer four-strokes use a timing chain tensioning device intended to develop its force using the engine oil pressure hydraulically. The OEM components have serious flaws, which can leave the timing chain in a slack.
I have 2020 790 r and after 900 miles noticed partial loss of clutch performance. After the usual corporate response from KTM reps (have never heard of this problem, yada, yada, yada) I pulled clutch out and examined springs (they had collapsed by .031") which would explain the hair trigger clutch. After examining the clutch drive plates (they
The tech package is hard to pass up for $500. I can’t imagine you’d regret it in the long run. If you don’t get those electronics activate you’ll probably always wonder about the potential of the bike that’s locked away. If you can’t swing it right now, you can always unlock it with your dealer at a late date. Oddometer: 3,202. Location: Spain. No real issues for me on the 890 in 35c Spanish sun. Though perhaps at those temps the engine heat can't really be felt anymore than the regular hot ass weather. The bike does run warm, fans come on regularly, but I don't have an issue with legs getting cooked.

2017 KTM 690 Enduro - Fuel pump failed at 6500 miles. Radiator sprung a leak at 8000 miles. Airbox sucked. 8500 miles 2018 KTM 250 XC-F - Only real fault was a poorly designed batter ground. Common fault on these bikes. 120 hours 2019 KTM 790 ADV-R - Brake rotors, rear shock (x2), TFT randomly died once. Rear brake line recall. 14k miles.

xplor pro comes on the rally not the R. R comes with xplor -not pro. i run tractive extreme on an r1200gs and as 300mm rear shock on a 2021 ktm 690. i find that tractive makes high quality and high performance components. i have xplor pro on the 790 rally. xplor pro is outstanding. if you don't mind the expense, get the xplor pro with cone valves.
In my opinion, the 890 is what they made after the initial issues were discovered in the 790. Both Duke and Adv. The 890, while a little more expensive, is going to be a longer-lived bike on average I bet just because they made the mistakes on the 790s first, went back to the drawing board a bit, and came up with the 890s. clamjumpr • 2 yr. ago. The first batch of 790 Adventure suffered some common issues. Those will be fixed over time, but if you get a new bike it’s a good idea to check if you are affected by some. Coolant leak. Double check the bash plate install. Early clutch failures. Faulty Brake Light Switch sensor. Fuel gauge not working. .
